How to Decorate Your Kitchen

The Kitchen is always the most recognized place in the house. It is not a place where we just prepare and store food. It is the most vital part within the entire home surroundings. Of course, the location of any kitchen should if possible, be perfect as with the view from the kitchen and the accessibility. But this isn’t always necessarily enough; besides the location the other important factor should be its look. The smarter the kitchen is the more value is added to your asset. Nowadays, the concept of an open kitchen is more prominent, even older-styled kitchens become renovated keeping in mind a modern open kitchen with adjoining dining areas.

Kitchen with a view

Decorating the kitchen is one of the important aspects of any home interior design. A few want to keep their kitchen detached from their main area. But irrespective of the location, if you can’t change it, the beautification of the same cannot be overlooked. To start with, walls of the kitchen should be perfect with correct choice of colors. You can always take a professional’s guidance before finalizing color schemes and textures which can give life to the walls. Also you can think of painting the same with different ranges of colors bright or light according to your home décor. On the basis of your taste of choice you can choose a bright yellow to vivid green to bright blue or another color that goes well with the other areas of your home. You can also use wallpaper with beautiful simple patterns with some contemporary designs.

The beautification of an area is when some value addition is achieved. Decorating a kitchen does not only include attractive walls, bright colors and smart furniture. It has to do a lot with utilizing and organizing space within. It is also important to have an idea of showcasing your accessories on the countertop and hiding cooking utensils and groceries in cupboards, drawers and containers. A display counter for your attractive and expensive crockery should be made in a way that it can viewed by guests and other visitors. The other appliances which are used on daily basis like the coffee maker, toaster, electric cooker and mixer & grinder should be placed by utilizing most of the space and ease of operation.
Kitchens have traditionally among working-class and middle class people been a room where cooking and eating is done. With larger, modern houses, the dining area is separate, but still adjoining so that the person/s cooking is not isolated from the family or visitors.

Kitchen Renovation on a Budget

Being realistic with your budget is the first rule of renovation. In renovation, budget is key. It will hopefully keep you from making lots of wrong decisions and choices before you are well into your renovation.  Do research before setting  a budget so you will have an idea what contractors, appliances and materials you will need for your kitchen renovation. Once you have all your information for every aspect of the design, then you will be able to work out a workable budget.

One aspect to consider is the purchase and installation of a used kitchen. It’s surprising what quality you can get for a low price when looking for a complete secondhand kitchen. Quite often the whole kitchen will look as if it’s hardly been used, as a family moving into a newly-purchased home will often consider replacing the entire kitchen for something they find more suitable.

Scouring demolition yards, secondhand stores, classified ads in newspapers or online will often bring unexpected bargains. Ebay is a place where you’ll find many complete kitchens at reasonable prices. Finding the one that will fit your existing kitchen space is often a challenge, but cabinets can sometimes be altered or modified quite easily to adapt to your space. Finding a secondhand kitchen complete with all working, modern appliances is a distinct bonus and quite often the appliances alone will be worth the price for the whole kitchen.

The complete recycled kitchen in these photographs was purchased on Ebay and featured a complete stone bench with dishwasher and recessed butler sink, a stainless steel cooktop/work bench with and underbench electric oven, a glass splashback and a pantry with glass doors that matched the splashback. The kitchen when new would have cost around $25,000, so it was a bargain. There were cupboards and cabinets that were not used in the kitchen but were used for storage in the bathroom and other places.

The kitchen featured here needed some modification, but nothing that was beyond normal DIY effort. The gas hob was replaced with a new ceramic cooktop, which necessitated enlarging the cutout in the stainless steel benchtop. This was done quite easily by using a jigsaw and a cutting oil.

This complete kitchen was purchased for $3000 and freight was $500, a new cooktop was added, the room was repaired/repainted and the wooden floor sanded and polished. For a total outlay of less than $7000 the old 1970′s kitchen was transformed. Kitchens can always be dressed by using quality accessories.
